RESTORATIVE JUSTICE CENTER
"CREATIVE COURTS AND CARING COMMUNITIES"

Our Vision, Mission, Values and Strategies

Our Vision:  To transform the way justice is traditionally administered by bringing the community and the courts together to focus on repairing harm and rehabilitating offenders, thereby creating healthier, safer, and more hopeful communities for all.

Our Mission: To raise awareness, develop resources, and provide advocacy to enhance and expand court programs that improve outcomes and restorative solutions for offenders, victims and the larger community.

Our Values:

• We believe that all people are inherently valuable, regardless of their level of ability or disability and their status with the criminal justice system.  They have the right to be treated with dignity and respect.
• We believe that personal problems such as mental illness, addiction and homelessness can be the underlying cause(s) of criminal behavior.
• We believe that the Court program participant is the Court’s customer and entitled to the best service possible.
• We believe that all people should be afforded the opportunity to develop to their full potential.
• We believe that creative alternative sentencing can be a change agent both for individuals and for the criminal justice delivery system.
• We believe that the greatest success for individuals can be accomplished in partnership with others in the community, such as policy makers, service providers, neighborhood groups and faith groups.

Our Strategies:
• To act as a catalyst for the development of resources to enhance Community Court programs and increase awareness about the benefits of restorative justice models.
• To partner with service providers and other stakeholders in order to maximize positive outcomes for defendants of the Court.
• To utilize information about best practices nationally in problem solving initiatives in order to improve local programming.
• To demonstrate the success of specific alternative sentencing programs through evaluation and data collection in order to advocate for their continuation and expansion.
• To monitor changing demographics and community variables in order to alter programs appropriately
